20 MAY 07 - Tick Advisory

Be advised that we have noticed an increase in the deer tick population in our area of operations.  Accordingly, we will have complementary tick repellant available on site.  Please take the time to read and understand the following:

THE ENEMY

The juvenile deer tick, or nymph, is abundant in late spring and summer and is about the size of a poppy seed. It is black in color. Adult ticks are active throughout the fall, warm winter days and early spring and are about the size of a sesame seed. Adult females (seen much more often on humans than males) are black toward the front and a dull red toward the rear.

adult male and female, nymph and larval ticks including deer ticks (Ixodes scapularis), Lone star ticks (Amblyomma americanum), and Dog ticks (Dermacentor variabilis)

PREVENTION IN THE FIELD

Unless you have a medical reason not to wear insect repellant containing DEET; Use insect repellent with 20% - 30% DEET on adult skin and clothing to prevent tick bite. Follow manufacture's directions.
Details about the proper use of repellents

Permethrin is another type of repellent. It can be purchased at outdoor equipment stores that carry camping or hunting gear. Permethrin kills ticks on contact! One application to pants, socks, and shoes typically stays effective through several washings. Permethrin should not be applied directly to skin.

Wear long pants, long sleeves, and long socks to keep ticks off your skin. Tucking pant legs into socks or boots and tucking shirts into pants help keep ticks on the outside of clothing. If you’ll be outside for an extended period of time, tape the area where your pants and socks meet to prevent ticks from crawling under your clothes.

Be vigilant for deer ticks - frequent tick checks and thorough inspections are the first line of defense against Lyme Disease.  Use the buddy system for inspections.

Promptly remove any ticks that are attached to the body using fine-tipped tweezers; take a pair of tweezers with you into the field.

Always thoroughly wash your hands and instruments immediately after handling ticks of any type.

AFTER THE FIGHT

Remove ticks from your clothes before going indoors. To kill ticks that you may have missed, wash your clothes with hot water and dry them using high heat for at least one hour.

A full-body tick inspection is a must. Inspect all parts of your body carefully including your armpits, scalp, and groin.
Remove ticks immediately using fine-tipped tweezers

If a tick is attached to your skin for less than 24 hours, your chance of getting Lyme disease is extremely small. But just to be safe, monitor your health closely after a tick bite and be alert for any
signs and symptoms of tick-borne illness.

For more information about Lyme disease and other tick-borne infections, visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) or call 1-800-876-LYME.

We will be giving away multiple free passes to Natural Selection 2007 and future presentations of Zero Hour at the prize raffle.

17 MAY 07 - Raffle Procedure Established

In view of the fact that only Redwolf was generous enough to sponsor our simulations this year and the fact that they have provided only one prize to raffle off for all three presentations of Zero Hour and the one presentation of Natural Selection 2007, the following procedure has been established:

Following the 26 May 07 presentation of Zero Hour, a raffle will be held and 2 “finalists” will be selected.  These finalists will have a chance to win the Tokyo Marui M733 AEG donated by Redwolf in a raffle following the final presentation of Zero Hour, held 01 September 07.

Following the 21 July 07 presentation of Zero Hour, a raffle will be held and 2 “finalists” will be selected.  These finalists will have a chance to win the Tokyo Marui M733 AEG donated by Redwolf in a raffle following the final presentation of Zero Hour, held 01 September 07.

Following the 18 August 07 presentation of Natural Selection, a raffle will be held and 3 “finalists” will be selected.  These finalists will have a chance to win the Tokyo Marui M733 AEG donated by Redwolf in a raffle following the final presentation of Zero Hour, held 01 September 07.

Following the 01 September 06 presentation of Zero Hour, a raffle will be held and 2 “finalists” will be selected.  These finalists will have a chance to win the Tokyo Marui M733 AEG donated by Redwolf.  Next, with 9 “finalists” established (3 from each presentation) a final raffle will be held to determine which of the 9 finalists will win the Tokyo Marui M733 AEG donated by Redwolf.  Finalists need not be present to win.  Arrangements can be made to ship the prize to the winner if he is not in attendance.

Keep in mind that all those who attend a presentation are eligible for the raffle regardless of whether they have been named as a finalist at a previous presentation – the more presentations you attend, the better your chances of winning are.
